How much does international debt collection cost?+

Cosmopolite works on a no cure, no fee basis. The success fee is a percentage of the amount actually recovered, agreed in writing before work begins. If nothing is recovered, no fee is due.

Are there any upfront fees?+

There is no registration fee and no retainer for standard amicable collection. Court costs, and fixed fees on certain complex legal cases, are quoted in writing and need your approval before anything is incurred.

How long does international debt collection take?+

Amicable recovery typically takes 20 to 60 days, depending on the debtor's country and responsiveness. Legal proceedings vary by jurisdiction, from a few weeks for an uncontested German Mahnverfahren to 12 months for a complex dispute. Debts placed within 90 days of default recover faster and more often.

How fast do you contact the debtor?+

The same day you place the case. A collector in the debtor's country makes first contact by phone, email, and formal written demand in the debtor's language.

In which countries can you collect debts?+

In more than 100 countries, including every EU member state, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Turkey, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Each case is handled by a collector based in the debtor's country.

What languages does your team speak?+

More than 20, including English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Portuguese, and Polish. Debtors are always contacted in their own language by a collector based in their country.

Do I need to travel to the debtor's country?+

No. Collectors and attorneys in the debtor's country handle everything locally. You manage the case remotely and approve each escalation decision.

What documents do I need to start a case?+

At minimum: the debtor's company name and address, the unpaid invoices with amounts and dates, the underlying contract or purchase order, and proof of delivery or service completion. Payment correspondence strengthens the file.

How do I place a case?+

Send the debtor's details and your documents through the case placement form. There is no submission fee and no obligation. Within 24 hours you receive a written assessment with a recovery strategy and the success fee.

Can I follow my case while it runs?+

Yes. Every case is visible in Haka AI, the platform Cosmopolite built in-house. You see each collector action, debtor response, and payment in real time.

What happens if the debtor disputes the debt?+

We ask for the debtor's objections in writing and test them against your documentation. A genuine partial dispute can be negotiated while the undisputed portion is collected. A tactical dispute raised only to delay payment is challenged directly and documented for court.

Can you collect debts from companies in insolvency?+

Once a debtor enters insolvency proceedings, individual collection is usually stayed. Our local attorneys file your claim within the deadline and monitor the proceedings. They also check whether directors carry personal liability and whether assets were moved before the filing.

What is the EU Late Payment Directive?+

Directive 2011/7/EU sets default payment terms for commercial transactions across the EU. It entitles a creditor to statutory interest at the ECB reference rate plus at least 8 percentage points, and to a minimum of EUR 40 in recovery costs per unpaid invoice.

What is your success rate?+

It depends on three things: the age of the debt, the quality of the paperwork, and the debtor's solvency. Debts placed within 90 days of default recover far more often than debts placed after a year. Your free case assessment gives a realistic projection for your file. Clients rate us 4.7 out of 5 across 68,127 reviews.

The question that matters most: who owes you, and where?
