Germany's Mahnverfahren is the fastest route to an enforceable title for undisputed debt, but the 14-day Widerspruch window determines whether it stays fast.
The Mahnverfahren can be filed electronically, and for straightforward, documented debt it remains one of the most efficient payment order procedures in Europe when the debtor doesn't object.
If the debtor files a Widerspruch (objection) within fourteen days, the case converts to standard litigation, which is why a well-documented claim that minimizes grounds for objection is worth the extra care up front.
German law entitles commercial creditors to statutory default interest under BGB § 288 without needing to negotiate it, and this should always be included in both the Mahnbescheid and any follow-up claim.
